Donner Frozen Dinners Print

San Francisco was wide-open compared to Boston's tight-ass Brit-worshipping scene. I quickly fell into three groups, the first of which was DFD.

We played each Thursday night at The Sound of Music (SOM) in SF's seedy Tenderloin district. This was a trio, the brain-child of Ian Webster, bouncer at the SOM and distant relative of Daniel Webster.

Our music was mostly improvised, riff-oriented a la Robert Fripp with me adding a funky bass. The drummer, Michelle, was a Swiss Charlie Watts. This was quite an experience. Though dissapating from the early art rock and punk days, the SOM was still quite a scene in 1985.
