Fluffy Print

An improv group I formed with Todd Barker and Phil Smoot from The Whitefronts. Phil alternated between guitar and trumpet, Todd between drums and saxophone.

Mostly improvised, this group was a great outlet for all three of us, if not entirely enjoyable for audiences. In retrospect, I'd say this band was better in concept than in execution, as none of us were good enough players to pull off a full set of interesting improvised music. Our worst mistake was trying to play jazz standards. Fortunately that phase didn't last long.

Phil left after a year or so, stating that we were "like a pick-up basketball game that didn't warrant the once a week commitment." He was right, but it was great fun while it lasted.

I never got to see Jim and Phil Smoot play, but I was a big Whitefronts fan and remember seeing Blue Movie a couple of times.
