Whorl Print

Whorl was my second group in San Francisco. Donner Frozen Dinner's drummer Michelle was also the drummer in Whorl, and invited me to sit in on bass when the original guy left the group.

Whorl played out quite a bit, including several gigs at the Mab. The driving force was a boyfriend/girlfriend songwriting combo (names long forgotten) on guitar and keys, respectively, a thirty-something German girl named Leila and a Haight Street comic book denizen/cab driver named (oops, forgot). Michelle and I were the rhythm section.

This was a fully-formed and functioning band when I stepped in, more so than any other band I ever played with. The songs were above average, the playing was clean but not spectacular. Looking back the style was quaintly New Wave, with discordant keyboard parts, ska-like guitar and saxophone. I left this band when I found my true calling: Blue Movie.
