Star Boots was formed to record a song as an entry for the 1979 Indianapolis State Fair Battle of the Bands. My seminal best friend Mark Gunnion wrote a song then invited me, his record store boss, and fellow high school glee club singer Lisa Lovelace to record it. To everyone but Mark's surprise, the Star Boots song, The Stars Are In Your Eyes, was selected among the top four, and we were invited to battle it out with three other groups at the State Fair Coliseum, a venue where The Beatles once played.
We came in second, but I bet they said that to all the non-winners.
Mark Gunnion, Lisa Lovelace and I rock the Coliseum at the Indiana State Fair Battle of the Bands. I have a mullet and Mark's playing a Flying V. Does it get any better than that?
