(2008-06-13) - In other news, I ruined the engine on our pristine 1977 Mercedes 300D by going 6 months without adding oil. A real rookie mistake, and an expensive one. We decided we didn't want to let the dream die, so I bought a second car and our trusty mechanic will perform an engine transplant this week.
Oversight - Oil. Right, oil! That blue cloud of smoke when she starts up was oil burning off.
Twins - Well, not exactly, the white gal is a 1979--and the engine runs. Whitey comes from Penngrove in the north bay, and has only 20K on its rebuilt engine.
Ready For Dr. Frankenstein - Hopefully just a quick swap, performed in Lafayette. What could go wrong? We'll know that answer in a week or so.
The Good Doctor - Here is Dr. Frankenstein himself, Nick from Nick's Exclusive Mercedes. The last honest foreign car mechanic in Lamorinda.
